‘Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or set foot on the path of sinners, or sit in the seat of mockers’ Psalm 1:1

Positioning matters in life. Where you are often influences what you get. Environment determines a lot. Your decisions are largely influenced by what’s around you.  The objects in our surroundings can trigger certain thoughts and desires, causing us to behave in certain ways. We look around ourselves at other people, objects, and the way our environment is set up to determine how we should act. In Africa, it is common to see someone dropping sweet-wrap on the street carelessly but the same person in a much more civilized or organized environment will behave differently.

It’s often said that your location determines your allocation. In nature, there is no vacuum. As you read this, what’s your posture? Are you standing, sitting, walking, sleeping or running. As you know that at any of these styles, there are things you can conveniently do and other things you find difficult or impossible to accomplish. The Psalmist exclaims that those who don’t walk among the wicked or take to their counsel are blessed. Isn’t this true? Many are arrested not only because they are criminals or involve in offensive event but only because they are found in company of offenders. What of those seating among the mockers? Whenever such mockers are in troubles, anyone found with them has a case to answer.  Ensure that you’re in the right place at the right time and in the right position

Medically; how long the patient is seated or lying in bed is very relevant. Proper positioning is vital for providing comfort to patients who are bedridden or have decreased mobility or sensibility, people with deformities, spasticity and pain and people with pressure ulcers or at the risk of developing one. Positioning is also relevant to people with cognitive disorders and people that are restless and unstable. In addition, it is also relevant to people receiving hygiene and dressing procedures in bed. Positioning is believed to contribute to an improved healing process.

Career wise, if you want to position yourself for a promotion, you have to do more than just ask for it. If you’re serious about advancing your career, you have to work for it. You may need to get advance qualifications that will enhance your skill development. This may relocate you out of your comfort zone. You may think bigger outside the box, take extra lessons, extra trips, and extra investment of resources to achieve your goals. No one gets a promotion by hiding in the shadows. You have to make sure that your valuable work and contributions are being seen by the right people.

Life is an endless battle and conflict; you cannot fight effectively unless you can identify your enemy’s position.

Below, we shall be considering some biblical characters whose movements changed their positioning positively.

King Ahaziah of Samaria was angry with Prophet Elijah because of the negative message he sent to him. He dispatched his messengers to arrest him. Unfortunately, they discovered that Elijah was at the top of the hill while they were at the bottom of the hill looking up to him.  2Kings 1:11 states, ‘Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and behold, he was sitting on the top of the hill. And he said to him, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’”

A widow in a town of Nain lost her only son. Mourners and neighbors gathered to sympathize and observed the burial rites. On the way to the graveyard, they walked into blessing. Jesus Christ met them and miracle happened.  Luke 7:12-15 ‘As he came near the entrance to the city, he met a funeral procession. The dead man was a widow’s only child. A large crowd from the city was with her. When the Lord saw her, He felt sorry for her. He said to her, “Don’t cry.” He went up to the open coffin, took hold of it, and the men who were carrying it stopped. He said, “Young man, I’m telling you to come back to life!” The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.’

God expressed that it is not good for a man to live alone. It was recommended for man to get married. Marriage is coming together of two adults – male and female – relocating from their parents homes to their own choice location. Matthew 19:4-6 states, “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”

Saul of Tarsus was a strong persecutor. On his way to Damascus, he walked into encounter with The Lord. This experience transformed his life. His name changed from Saul to Paul. What he once stood against now became his life-time engagement. He was relocated from darkness to the light of redemption

Jacob walked into the house of Laban as a job seeker. He was hired and negotiated to marry Laban’s daughter. He served for fourteen years and got two wives. He left with his wives unauthorized by Laban, encountered much challenges on his way and eventually fought with an angel. This experience changed his name to Israel. Genesis 32:24-28. ‘So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.  Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.” The man asked him, “What is your name?” “Jacob,” he answered. Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with humans and have overcome.’

In conclusion, movement of people is as old as human creation. People keep moving from one location to the other which he considers greener pastures. That is the reason for migrating from one location to the other. No step leaves a man the same. It either lifts up or nose dive into a worst position. That’s why the elders say ‘look before you leap’. This is often used for advising someone to think carefully before doing something. You must watch well because along our paths, there are  some humans we must miss otherwise they will mislead us. There are others that we must divinely connect to get to our blessed promised land

More and more people use mobile phones. Be it during a meal or a walk, people always stare at their phones as if bound by an invisible tether. Even when crossing the street, many fail to look up and slowly walk into danger. My prayer is that you won’t walk into calamities. Your foot will miss the snares of your enemies. You will be guided into unplanned blessings. Enter into the glory ahead joyfully!
