Jesus explained, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work’. John 4:34
We learned that God the creator of heaven and earth worked for six days and rested on the seventh day. Work is a necessity for survival for all human. Work is beautiful. The first humans – Adam and Eve were assigned to tend the Garden of Eden. Hard work never killed anyone but will only make all stronger. Even those in retirement still prefer to lay their hands on few tasks that are not stressful. The elders say ‘no food for a lazy man’ as Psalm 90:17 testify ‘May the favour of the Lord our God rests on us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands’. Work is made for man
If wishes are horses, a beggar will ride. Why are you wishing and not taking appropriate action? The world belongs to actors. You can only live your dreams if you take action. Many can talk big, even boasting but only few ends up taking right actions. Ideas, dreams and inspirations that can give birth to tremendous products and services can sink away if it’s not acted upon as required. Everyman dream but few turn it around to get results. Results come by working it out
Blessings come only to those that work out the words they received. Believers are told that when prophecies come, it must be worked out. Words spoken must be prayed to actualize the purpose. Don’t fold your arms waiting and expecting that some days, things will fix itself. No. Work on it to get desired outcome. James 1:22-25 states ‘But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was’. This world belongs to those who think and act with it, who keeps a finger on its pulse.
If you know exactly what you want, then work it out. Create a vision in your mind and a plan of achieving your task.
The first recorded miracle of Jesus Christ centres on the working out of the given instructions. This secret was revealed by Mary, the mother of Jesus. They were both invited to a wedding in the city of Cana. The celebrant informed Mary that they have ran out of wine. A ceremony that has been bubbling with so much fun and merriment will end in shame? She felt that if she informs Jesus, He will do something about it with the cooperation of His disciples. John 2:1-12 states ‘ On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” The disciples did as instructed and miracle happened. Weariness that already set in the atmosphere disappeared immediately the miraculous wine flowed at the party
At the end of a hectic day ministration, Jesus instructed his disciples to move on to the next point of assignment. On their journey, they encountered windy storms that almost sank their boat. They were terrified and struggling to save their lives. Suddenly, they noticed a ghost-like figure approaching them. In perplexity, they shouted but the figure calms them that they will be rescued. The voice sound-like Jesus’s voice and when Peter declared to affirm the authenticity of the voice he said ‘“command me to come to You on the water.” “Come,” said Jesus. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus… They were all eventually saved. Peter worked the word he heard from Jesus and the miracle of walking on water was watched by the rest of the disciples who didn’t respond to work it out.
Working the word requires great faith. Courage is a necessity. In the case of Israelites being pursued by Pharaoh and his armies, they wander in the wilderness until they got to the bank of red sea. The people thought their end has come. They began to rebuke Moses. In this depressed condition, the word came to Moses as expressed in Exodus 14:15-16 ‘The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel may go through the sea on dry ground.’ This instruction looks too simple to solve the problem but Moses worked it out. He obeyed. Exodus 14:21-22 confirmed the wonders that followed. ‘And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.’ If Moses rationalizes the word and didn’t do anything, the story would have been different.
Those who sank into the pit of sicknesses can rise up and out by working the word. The power in the divine word is sufficient for healing.
He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit. Psalm 107:20
Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded but he was a leper. His captive young girl from Israel suggested to him to see a prophet in Samaria. He agreed and made right preparation to see Prophet Elisha. When he met Prophet Elisha, he spoke: “Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed.” But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. The slave girl quickly intervenes and appealed to Naaman to obey the instruction and do as recommended. He obeyed and suddenly got his healing. If he failed to work the word of Prophet Elisha that day, his leprosy would have been eternal.
Different location is known for each wonder of nature. Vegetation that can thrive well in the tropical rainforest region of the world cannot survive in the desert. So also for leisure or tourism places are known to inhabit diverse features spread across the world. In Jerusalem-Israel, there is a pool by Sheep Gate having five porches in Bethesda. Great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, always gathered there waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. An impotent man has been waiting there for about thirty-eight years unhealed. One day, Jesus Christ visited the pool and asked the man if he needs healing. He almost missed the opportunity for he was giving the usual excuses instead of promptly working the word. Thank God for His mercy, the man responded and the word work for him. He left the pool fully recovered same day.
Proverbs 22:7 states “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.”
Beggars can’t be choosers. The lender’s hand is always on top. Until a borrower fully pays all the debts, he is answerable to the lender’s terms and conditions. A widow cried to Prophet Elisha to report the creditor who visited her to take her two children to be his slaves until the debt is cleared. The prophet was moved with compassion and believed God for divine intervention. He asked the woman ‘what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” The prophet said, “Go, borrow vessels at large for yourself from all your neighbours, even empty vessels; do not get a few. And you shall go in and shut the door behind you and your sons, and pour out into all these vessels, and you shall set aside what is full.” So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons; they were bringing the vessels to her and she poured. When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not one vessel more.” And the oil stopped. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt, and you and your sons can live on the rest.” This widow set herself and children free from bondage of debt by working the prophet word
The divine word often looks incredible. Man may be tempted to subject it to rational thinking. It doesn’t work that way. The scriptural words are ‘spiritual’. We should not be casual about divine instruction even if it sounds senseless, just obey and do it. Recall a day when Jesus and the disciples were accosted to pay the temple tax. Unfortunately, they don’t have money that day at the time. Jesus gave the word that his disciples should go to the nearby river and any fish they catch first is the one who has the required money in his mouth. Reluctantly, the disciples obeyed and that solve all their financial needs
Finally, we should know that the entire Holy Bible is a manual containing the words that believers are to work on. Anyhow, you feel with the word doesn’t diminish its potential. When Jesus finished using Peter’s boat and desire to bless him, Peter argued, saying “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word, I will let down the net.” And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking.
Do you need prompt profit from the word, work it out as recommended. Don’t add to it neither delete from it. The word of God works wonders only if you can believe. The word of God is a supernatural living force; it has power to cause change and to make things happen. The word works. God’s word carries God’s virtues. Let it flow by working it.
